The LIST - September 2021

The most searched for restaurants of the past month

It's September! WOW, 2021 is flying by fast. Why does it feel like I say this every year? It's at about this point that we're all beginning to wear down a bit because of the weather. It’s HOT out. And, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, it’s not going away all that soon.

That being said, we’re still lucky enough to be able to eat any meal we choose outdoors. Lots of your favorite Sarasota restaurants have shaded outdoor dining spaces to make things a bit more comfortable. And, some even have those refreshing little misters. Aahhh…

In the past month, we’ve added a few places to the dineSarasota restaurant database. The total now stands at 341.

We’ve added Pizza N’ Brew, Atmosphere Neapolitan Pizzeria, and Hoshi Sushi since we last posted our monthly Top 25. Atmosphere is turning out some fantastic Neapolitan pies out of their new place in the Sarasota Commons shopping center. You might want to schedule a time to sample some pizza. I know that sounds like work, but… If you happen to make it to any or all of these new spots, please leave a comment and let us know how your experience was.

Alright, let’s get to this month’s TOP 10.

Lots and lots of new places in this month’s top spots. The new Lily Café moves up to number one. A nice and comfortable little breakfast and lunch place in The Landings. Lots to choose from here. The Avocado Bacon Caesar Salad was a big hit with me. Bacon is in the name of the dish. So, unless you’re vegan/veg, this is a no-brainer.

Right behind Lily this month is The Casey Key Fish House. Yes, I know they’ve been around for a while. Lots of you have been searching for info on them this month. Maybe it’s because you can get there by boat??

The Drunken Poet Café on Main Street downtown rounds out the top three for September. They’re serving up delicious Thai cuisine and creative sushi selections. And, they’ve been doing it since 2006! That’s no easy feat in today’s tough restaurant environment.

Lots of new additions to the top ten. Kojo, new on Palm, the sudden (and a little bit unexpected) return of Munchies 420 to our list and Figaro Bistro on Hillview (located in the former Chutney’s, Etc. space).

I’m not sure if this is a hot weather thing or not, but, three of the top ten places serve sushi. Is it true that a boat of sushi can cool you down on a warm Florida day?? Maybe it's time you find out! FYI - We'll have a Sarasota sushi post coming soon. Keep an eye out for that.

OK, here’s a link to the whole September list

dineSarasota TOP 25 - September 2021

For the visual learners in the crowd, I’ve got a few “gone, but not forgotten” Sarasota restaurant logos for you to have a look at. See how many of these you recall…

I remember eating at and writing about most of those places. Derek's was so far ahead of the Rosemary District coming into its own. Now that area of town is booming. Back then, not so much. We’re just so lucky to live in a fantastic food town that has really held up well over the years.

Since we’re taking that trip down memory lane, AND, it is September, it’s fitting that we wrap things up on a high note! Let’s let Maurice White and EW&F take it out for us. Here we go, back to 1978!

That’s it for another month. Keep searching and keep eating!
