All of the Sarasota food, restaurant and dining news you will need!

It's hot out! But I don't need to tell you that. Here's the not-so-breaking news. It's going to stay this way for a while. I mean, like September if we're really lucky.

Yes, you can BBQ outside. It's a fantastic time of year to have friends and family over for a cookout. Most summer holidays are built for that, but I think it might be an even better time to enjoy a Sarasota restaurant and dine in!

Let's get this summer party started!

WHAT'S IN A NAME? 🦞

We all know the Lazy Lobster. It's been open here in Sarasota since 2007. But what you might not know is that the same folks also own the popular and VERY affordable seafood spot, Kacey's Seafood & More. Now they're adding to the Kacey's family by rebranding their Lazy Lobster store on Lockwood Ridge Road. It's good to have options.

MEET THE NEW GOAT, SAME AS THE... 🌮

Yes, the Screaming Goat Taqueria in Gulf Gate has a new home. It's close to their former home. It's just one block over, in fact. We have a little First Look report on the new space, just in case you may have missed it last week. Yes, of course, they're still serving the same great Latin Street Food. That's a silly question.

CAN MAN LIVE ON BREAD ALONE? ONLY WITH GREAT CHEESE 🧀🥖

Our 20th President, James Garfield's go-to topping for his bread was peanut butter. Which I admit would do in a pinch. But only if there was no delicious semi-gooey cheese to be found. The ladies over at the Artisan Cheese Company have had the cheese part figured out since they arrived in Sarasota ten long years ago. Now they're adding another vital component to their gastronomic experience. They're now baking their own fresh bread!! We are about to be in for a big treat if they're as good at this as they are at their fromage game!

CAN YOU REALLY GAME A FOOD SHOW?? 📺

Any food-centric person that was here in Sarasota back in 2009 remembers Adam Richman's stop in town. Yes, he hit Yoder's and The Old Salty Dog. But the stop that left everyone talking (and sweating) was the "Fire in your Hole" challenge that he attempted at Munchies 420 Café. Of course, anyone who has eaten Munchies' wings knows they are great, AND they are hot. But after all this time and opportunity for reflection, Adam thinks he may have gotten a little more than advertised. We'll let you decide...

SPEAKING OF HOT... MAYBE JUST A LITTLE TOO MUCH 🔥

Food and food truck festivals are always a ton of fun. There is just SO much great food to eat and new things to try. Over on the FL East Coast, it got a little too exciting at one food get-together. Be careful out there!

WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE LIKE A BIG PIZZA PIE, THAT'S AMORE 🍕

A newcomer on the Sarasota pizza scene is making a play for your frozen pizza affection. The super-popular Atmosphere Pizza wants to have their pie in your freezer! That's a win-win, especially for those that don't make it out to the restaurant on Beneva Road. I completely realize that it's not a substitute for the REAL thing. But let's face it, the freezer can be pretty damn convenient. Their delicious Neapolitan pizzas can be found at Morton's Gourmet Market, as well as Café Italia and La Violetta.

LET'S PASS THAT TORCH! 🏝️🔥

Dining on Siesta Key in the late 1990s didn't look anything like it does now. There were A LOT fewer options. I remember having dinner on The Key back in those culinarily primitive times. On one occasion, our server for the evening was still sporting his beach attire from his relaxing afternoon enjoying the Siesta sand. After ordering our meal, we were informed that our salads would take a few minutes longer than usual. It seems the restaurant had exhausted their tomato supply for the day (it was only 6:30, and this place wasn't open for lunch!) Our server quickly jumped into produce delivery mode, hopped on his bike, and headed down to the Siesta Market. Within ten minutes, he was back, with a bag of tomatoes in hand! Our salads promptly followed. That was The Blasé Café of the late 90s. Times have changed, and so did Blasé. And now it (and 3.14 Pi Craft Beer & Spirits) has a new ownership group led by Mike Quillen of Gecko's Hospitality. The village dining scene keeps on spinning...

QUICK BITES... We didn't forget your bites. Deep Lagoon Seafood & Oyster House opening in Waterside Place sometime in 2023... Bijou Garden Café announces new Broadway Brunch Series... New Daiquiri Deck to be a part of the Bradenton Riverwalk Expansion... Shiny Gumbo opens in Gulf Gate... Breakfast and lunch spot Sweet Deli Cafe is now open in downtown Bradenton... Bamboo Garden NY Chinese carryout opens in Northridge Shopping Center (🤞)… Peru 941 is now open at 1537 Main Street in downtown Sarasota... Whew, that's a lot of stuff! Boy, for a small city, we sure have a lot of activity in our local Sarasota dining community. And that's great news!
